"Lava" does not sound like anything else I've heard this year, or last year for that matter. While SLUDGE may not be the new kings, the album does intrigue. And boy, do these guys really know how to bring the ugliness....
SLUDGE haben genau das vertont, und das sogar ziemlich gut, denn die Jungs können was an ihren Intrumenten, schaffen es, zwischen all den ausrastenden Anfällen in Form von Lavariffs auf Koks, waberndem Bass und manischen Drums Stillstand zu erzeugen, kurze Augenblicke hypnotischer Nichtexistenz. Die Skepsis war also unbegründet, die Band liefert genau das ab, was Name und Titel versprechen. Wer Bands wie EYEHATEGOD, GRIEF, OVERMARS / DONE FOR oder den doomigen Ablegern wie VOLITION etwas...
....The songs have a heavy, overwhelming and powerful rhythmic. The vocals are unhealthy and aggressive at wishes, screaming coming right from hell… it is clear that the vocals bring an undeniable plus to the tracks because of the suffering… a apocalyptic side.
The riffs are powerful, fast and heavy. If the tracks are fast, even much faster we find passages where everything slows down and where all becomes limit oppressing....
Switzerland’s Sludge hardly plays the expectable type of metal, most dominantly because you’ll barely find more than a handful metal-bands from the small country at all, but likewise due to the unconventional approach to a vast array of subgenres of metal in general. Sludge’s Makro is moreover involved with Samael, and since I met that band, including Makro, during one of their concerts years ago, I was a willing interviewer following the release of Sludge’s new album Lava.
“Lava” has just been released with a new and touchy sound...
